The former Nigeria President from the People Democratic Party, Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan has denounced the claim in the media that he worked against his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the just-concluded Bayelsa State Governorship poll election because of the Malabu oil deal. He described the claim as absurd and as a form of blackmail.
The former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido who had said in an interview claimed that the former President sold off his Party in the last Bayelsa governorship election. He claimed the Ex-President was trying to avoid being prosecuted by the government of President Muhammadu Buhari over the Malabo deal. He said Federal Government used the Malabo case to blackmail Jonathan into supporting the All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State. He claimed that he can’t have imagined a former President selling his own Bayelsa people, PDP to an opposition party that called him names that brought down his reputation as a President.
Ex-governor Sule Lamido, however, has caution the members of the party, PDP who are calling for the suspension of Jonathan, saying senior members of the party had done worse than what the former President has done.
Ikechukwu Eze, Jonathan's media aide in a statement said Lamido did not speak like a statesman and described his claim as absurd.
He said, “Ordinarily, we shouldn’t be responding to an interview of this nature because it is obvious, given his amiable nature, former President Jonathan does not consider the idea of joining issues with individuals on the pages of newspapers decent conduct.
“We are also aware of the former president’s belief that truth always has a way of catching up with statements rooted in lies and propaganda, such as this one. Furthermore, we considered that when former President Jonathan was in office, Lamido was one of the governors that worked closely with him.
“However, we chose to make this clarification just to set the record straight, especially as some of the former president’s close associates have been asking questions about the blatant statement credited to Lamido.
He actually came off the interview sounding like a sulking skunk, to whom logic or reason meant nothing. It didn’t matter to him that, as a well-respected member of the society, he shouldn’t make such weighty claims against a former president if he was only guessing as he admitted. Hear him: ‘And the issue of Malabu, I think, played a key role’.
In one breathe, Lamido alleged Jonathan worked against his party ‘because he was very, very angry with (governor) Dickson,’ in another, he claimed it was ‘because he (Jonathan) knows his problem with Buhari and his government. And the issue of Malabu, I think, played a key role’.
Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan who is the National Publicity Secretary of the People Democratic Party disclosed in an interview with newsmen in Abuja that the Party has nothing against Ex-President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan over the just concluded Bayelsa State governorship election.
In a world of Politics, we now live in, Nigerians should note the fact that politics is just a game, the fact been true is that anybody can be a winner and anybody can also be a loser irrespective of your party are from. Nigerians are now wise enough to decide who should role them.
