Arochukwu PDP debunks rumors of division

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Chairman of Arochukwu local government area of Abia State, Hon. Anthony Nwankwo, has debunked the news making the rounds that there is no peace in the party at the L.G.A, saying that the party under his watch has remained intact.

Recall that the transition committee chairman of Arochukwu local government area, Mazi Emmanuel Okwu Obasi Kanu, had accused the local government PDP chairman, Hon. Anthony Nwankwo of sabotaging efforts to return peace to the LG chapter of the ruling party in the state, ahead of the forthcoming PDP Congresses across the state.

Mazi Kanu who made the allegation in a statement signed by his Chief of Staff, Emmanuel Awah and the Deputy chairman of PDP in Arochukwu, Ezinne Grace, Chijoke and made available to newsmen, further alleged that the Party’s poor performance in the local government during the 2019 election is attributed to lack of peace.

The TC chairman was also said to have unraveled plans by Hon. Nwankwo to go against the directive of the state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and other party bigwigs in the local government by attempting to hold a parallel stakeholders meeting on Saturday at the party office without following due process, a move he claimed was thwarted, forcing the chairman and his loyalists to relocate to the home of another party chieftain.

Reacting to this development, Hon. Nwankwo reminded the transition committee chairman that he is only on transition and the party's constitution reserves no special recognition for him.

He wondered why the transition committee chairman should organize a stakeholders meeting, get the deputy chairman of the party to sign the announcement while he is still alive and functioning as Arochukwu L.G.A PDP Chairman.

His words, "I don't understand Mazi Emmanuel Okwu Obasi Kanu. Is he a party man? He is a transition chairman and I am the PDP chairman of Arochukwu local government; and the PDP structure is intact in Arochukwu.

"Transition government only serve out and go. Our governor can appoint even a civil servant as a transition chairman. It doesn't mean that any transition chairman in any of the local government areas of the state, is a real member of the party. We lost our transition committee chairman, Hon. Maurice Onyekachi Okoro, who died in active service, then Mazi Emmanuel Okwu Obasi Kanu was appointed to replace his position as the transition chairman.

"So, we don't have problem in Arochukwu, what we are talking about is the party, we are not talking about transition and the party constitution is very clear; and there is no place in the Constitution, they said transition committee chairman has a position in the party".
