Covid-19: Abia Govt commence distribution of food items to residents





The Abia State Government   has commenced 
distribution of food materials to cushion the effect of Covid-19 pandemic on residents of the state. 

Speaking while flagging off the  Palliatives to churches in the state Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, said the food items were meant for the less privileged in the state.

The governor who was represented by the Deputy Governor Sir Ude Oko-chukwu, added that they choose to use church leaders for the distribution of the items because they can identify the indigent ones in their midst easily.

He said, "We have started these palliative measures
with the Catholic and Methodist Churches
and they will get 300 bags of Rice,10 bags of beans, 300 Tubers of yam, 300 hand sanitizers, 5,000 face masks and a cash sum of six million naira each. 

"The Apostolic Church will receive the cash sum of five million naira, 250 tubers of yam, 250 bags of rice, 8 bags of beans, 200 hand sanitizers and 3000 face masks.

"Also the Assemblies of God church will get a cash sum of five million naira, 250 bags of rice ,8 bags of beans
,200 hand sanitizers, 3000 face masks and 250 Tubers of yam.

"The Umuahia Central Mosque will receive the cash sum of one million naira, 100 bags of riceice, 5 bags of beans
,100 face masks, 100 Tubers of yam, 50 hand sanitizers".

Ikpeazu, pointed out that the the distribution of the food items would could continue on Wednesday to other Christan denominations in the state.

The church leaders led by the chairman of the Christian Associated of Nigeria in the state Apostle Emmanuel Agwonuo commended the state government for th gestures.

He vowed to ensure that the items would to the target members of the church.
