The traditional ruler of Ata-Igboukwu autonomous community, Umuzomgbo Ihechiowa in Arochukwu L.G.A, of Abia State

has given palliative to over 522 indigent populace of the 17 villages in the community.
The outreach which was specifically designed to cushion the effect of COVID-19 in Ihechiowa, was also used to celebrate the year 2020 new yam (iri ji) festival of the community.
Speaking during the event which observed all the COVID-19 precautionary directives from NCDC and government, Eze Linus Mbah said the gesture was solely for the widows, disabled, the aged and the downtrodden living in the 17 villages in Ihechiowa.
He harped the need for the rich in the society to change the mantra - self first and think of how to change the fortunes of the downtrodden living among them for good.
In a brief speech, the traditional prime minister of the community, Chief Okore Ndu decried the hardship/setbacks introduced by the ugly visit of Coronavirus disease, COVID-19 and appreciated Eze Mbah for using the New Yam festival to distribute palliatives to the indigent populace in Ihechiowa.
Tubers of yam, cartons of instant noodles, vegetable oil; bags of salt, garri, rice and stockfish and wrappers were distributed during the event.
