Abia State Ministry of Environment has frowned at the attitude of some residents of Aba and Umuahia who block drainages with refuse.
Speaking shortly after monitoring the months sanitation exercise in Umuahia last Saturday the director of environmental health and disease control Mr. Ike Uche, said the blockage of the drains is the major cause of flooding on the long run.
"Recall that the Nigeria Meteorological Agency had predicted that some Local Governments in Abia state were highly probable flood risk areas in 2020.
Also the National Emergency Management Agency has advised the state government to take drastic measures against impending flooding as predicted

Speaking further Uche, revealed that the State Government had completed plans to desilt drainages in Aba and Umuahia and its environs as a way to avoid the probable flooding.
He urged residents who embark on desilting of drainages around their homes to liaise with the ministry of environment for the evacuation of the refuses scoped out the drain.
"we are working on the way to improve the sanitation operational method because we have all that it takes to change the narrative", he said.
