Convert N5b car loan approval to road construction, others, journalist tells Imo gov

Chidiebube Okeoma, Owerri

A journalist, Chidiebube Okeoma, has urged the governor of Imo state, Hope Uzodinma, to convert the N5n loan request approved for him by the state legislature on Tuesday for purchase of vehicles for his political appointees to construction of roads, prompt payment of salaries of civil servants, pensions and gratuities of retirees.

Okeoma, who spoke in Owerri, the state capital, on Wednesday, faulted the governor for seeking a whopping sum of N5b to purchase vehicles for his political appointees when the state was in urgent need of massive road constructions and payment of salaries, pensions and gratuities.

The journalist also chided the state lawmakers for approving what he tagged an " insensitive loan request".

Okeoma, contended that it was unfortunate for a state governor to borrow N5b to buy cars for his political appointees.

According to him, it was a share mark of triviality and lack of leadership cohesion for the governor to seek a N5b loan to buy cars for his appointee off a time the state's Internally Generated Revenue had nosedived, owing to the nationawide economic crisis.

The journalist stated that the governor can redeem his image by converting the N5m car loan to construction of roads, payment of salaries of civil servants, especially teachers in the Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of the state, who had not been paid for eight months now and payment of pensions and gratuities of the senior citizens.

Okeoma said" I appeal to the Imo state governor to convert the N5n loan approval from the state house of Assembly for the purchase of vehicles for his political appointees to prompt payment of salaries of civil servants, pensions and gratuities.

"He should equally convert it to construction of roads in the state. It is unfortunate that of a time most of the roads in the state are impassable, the governor is making such a frivolous loan request.

"The governor can redeem himself by converting the N5m car loan request approval to meaningful projects. We can't be running from pillars to post Everytime in this state. As we speak, teachers in Ngor Okpala LGA have not received salaries for eight months running and we went to spend N5b loan to purchase vehicles for political appointees?. This is very unfortunate. All well meaning people of the state should condemn this irrespective of political or religious affiliation."
