On December 6, 2020 the
Abia State Governor,Okezie Ikpeazu, directed the immediate suspension of his chief of staff chief Anthony Agbazuere from office.
In a statement by the Secretary to the State Government Barr Chris Ezem, the governor also directed the Permanent Secretary, Government House, Mr Alozie Odoemelam, to perform the duties of the office of Chief of Staff until further notice.
Agbazuere, who was one year and one month in office having been appointed on November 5 2019 is noted to be one of the most powerful CoS in the state since the return of democracy in 1999.
Although no reason was given for his suspension from office, but there were speculations the action taken against the CoS may not have been unconnected to a viral video showing where he was spraying money on a popular Onitsha preacher/Prophet Dr. Chukwuemeka Ohaneme (aka Odumeje) in his office during his visit to government house in Umuahia.
There have been calls and pleads from lovers of the suspended chief of staff including, traditional rulers, movie stars, Concerned Abians in diaspora, Abia youths forum and many more for the recall of the CoS.
All things being equal, the announcement of his reinstatement to office might just be a big Christmas gift from Governor Ikpeazu to Agbazuere.
