Major General Chukwunedum Martins Abraham (RTD) has urged Nigerians to see the security of the country as their collective responsibility and not the duty of military only.
Abraham Who retired after 37 years of meritorious service in the army spoke at his Amaogwugwu Umuahia country home shortly after he was conferred with a merit award by the Amaogwugwu Federated Union during her 2021 anuual conference/merit award.
He said the army cannot fight the insecurity challenges in the country without the support of other security agencies and the cooperation of the civilian population who can provide useful information about their environment to security operatives.
Also speaking, another award recipient Mr Ikechukwu Victor Onuzuruike lauded the AFU for finding him Worthy for the merit award.
He said the union considered the efforts of the recipients towards community development before choosing them for the honour.
He charged Igbo people living outside the South East to always make investment in their home States as part of their efforts towards the development of their own towns and villages.
In his speech the president general AFU Chief Nnaemeka Chukwuma, lauded the illustrious sons and daughters of the community for their excellent service to the community and Nigeria at Large.
He said, "Our brothers and sisters have made us proud through meritorious service and retired unblemished.
"To our octogenarians whom God have kept alive to be celebrated on this day, we rejoice with you all our senior citizens".
He added that the Union under his watch had restored various organs in the community including the administrative elders Council, the women wing, the youth wing and its branches in Umuahia, Lagos Abuja and Port Harcourt.
Other achievements made by the administration includes registering AFU with the corporate affairs, promotion of free medical care for aged members of the community, energizing a 33kva transformer in the community and the establishment of Amaogwugwu Vigilante service .
"AFU under my leadership have successfully empowered widows with traders money and less privilege children with school fees in our last conference through the initiative of our Lagos branch",he pointed out.

Chief Mrs Chinyere Rose Uzoma CGI (RTD) OON mni, Dame Ngozi Chikwendu and 53 octogenarians who retired from community service.
