The policies and agenda of the PDP in Abia State under the leadership of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and Rt. Hon. Asiforo Okere as the State Party Chairman is that of assurance of brighter days to Abians and to the Stakeholders, of their protection in the party.
Recall that shortly after his election and inauguration as the party Chairman, Rt. Hon. Asiforo made it pointedly clear that he desires a peaceful running of the party by the new executive even as he had promised to take the party to the next level.
While also assuring to run a unified party, devoid of rancour he gave his words that no stone will be left unturned to ensuring that no factions exist in the party as experienced in the outgone executive.
His first litmus test was the December, 18, 2020 local government election in which Asiforo exhibited the highest sense of maturity and had warned all the party's chairmanship aspirants contesting for the election, that the party will disqualify any of them found to be involved in any form of violence during the party's primaries, even as he assured all the aspirants that the party will give all aspirants a level playing ground to test their popularity; as days of impositions and anointing of particular candidates is over.
His words, "The PDP will never impose any candidate on the people. There won't be any form of impunity all those dropping names around should better go and work hard as the party's primaries will be free and Fair with obvious evidence of credibility.
"No aspirant would be intimidated by any means but any one of the aspirants found to be involved in any form of violence either individually or by his boys, brothers and family members will be automatically disqualified. We are all brothers and sisters and the contest we're going into is a family affair where only one person will emerge to represent the party. It is not a do or die issue and we should be sportsman like knowing fully well that in this contest only one candidate will emerge "
He had told the party's chairmanship aspirants "to go and do their home works very well, talk to your people if they elect you fine but if not you wait for next time and still remain loyal members of the party"
Dr. Okere assured all the aspirants that the party will do her utmost best to give all the aspirants a conducive and credible environment to present themselves to the people without any form of molestation and intimidation.
Dr. Okere whose interest is to see that the man at the state helm of affairs, succeeds, had in many occasions, assured his loyalty and support of the party to Governor Ikpeazu
While lauding the developmental strides of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in the State since assumption of office in 2015, at the commissioning of Osusu road in Aba, the PDP chairman posited that other political leaders work in Facebook, while Governor Ikpeazu works on site.
The PDP boss revealed that Ikpeazu-led administration had shown resilience by providing the basic need of the people and admonished the residents of Abia State, particularly Osusu road to vote for the party when the time comes, as Governor Okezie Ikpeazu government had shown that PDP had good intentions for the people of Abia State.
Okere said, "Governor Okezie has shown that our party is a great party. Having seen the level of work done on the roads commissioned, I urge people of Abia State to vote for the party when the time comes".
It is also on record that the PDP party which has remained the largest political party in the African soil and a party to beat in Abia State, has overtime received and it is still receiving accolades from well-meaning Abians, both at home and in diaspora.
The answer to the massive defection of politicians to the party and the accolades from Nigerians, is simply, the visionary leadership of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and the friendly disposition of Rt. Hon. Asiforo Okere, the state party Chairman.
The governor through his dance steps with the support of members of his party, which he has vowed not to leave, is assuring Abians that he intended to complete all projects started by his administration before 2023.
And this is affecting positively the numerical strength of the Abia PDP. For instance, under the present administration, the PDP as at last check has received thousands of other Party faithful and has also come out stronger and more resolute than ever. Each day, each time, the State PDP Stakeholders’ Meeting turns out as a big unifying factor of family members that have remained united, undaunted, focused, strong and reliable since 1998 when it was formed.
The exceptional and sterling developmental strides of Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, his ‘Caterpillar Revolution’ has endeared him to Abians and admirers across the Nation. And it has further increased the curiousity of Politicians and nonpoliticians inching to join the party.
Mark these words: Because of the spread of Development and Democracy Dividends across the state, PDP will soon swallow other political parties in the state... Just a little while and time will tell.
