Abia born entertainment promoter and Philanthropist Mr. Lucky Igbokwe, has expressed his worries over the population of Nigerians living below poverty line.
Igbokwe, popularly known Don Lulu, said the scenario can be changed if citizens were encouraged to be self employed, rather than continuous search for elusive white collar jobs.
He spoke on Friday at Ekeoba community in Umuahia the Abia State capital during the first graduation ceremony of 600 Agro trainees on basic farm and poultry management sponsored by the Don Lulu Foundation.
He sai,"I was moved by the records from the National Bureau of Statistics which showed that about 40% of Nigerians live below poverty level, a situation which is very sad.
"I'm worried on how Nigeria got to this precarious situation, even when our land is blessed, with adequate seasonal rainfall and many natural/human resources and our people are strong and hardworking, so what is delaying the growth of our people?
"But ifound out that human development and encouragement is just what people need to rise, that is why the Don Lulu Foundation decided to step in through the Rural Youth and Women Development Program in Agriculture to help our people rise above poverty line".
He disclosed that the agro training program will spread round the zones in Umuahia adding that it is going to be a retraining program which will aid the beneficiaries to train others.
The lead consultant of the training project, Dr Emmanuel Mgbekwute, hinted that the agro training project started with about 15 participants and ended with 600 graduands.
He commended Igbokwe, for giving attention to the project which made the training program successful.
Highlights of the ceremony was the presentation of gifts and awards to best graduating students and graduation certificate to other graduands.
The Deputy Chairman of Umuahia South , Bob Agbuga, HRK Eze Iheanyichukwu Nwokenna, Oba of Ekeoba ancient kingdom, HRM Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu, Oroko Abia, Diawa 1 of Umudiawa, chairman Ohuhu Council of traditional rulers, Eze Paul Uzuegbu and Eze Innocent Nwaigwe graced the occasion.
The traditional rulers prayed and thanked Don Lulu for his desire to empower his people and also advised the beneficiaries to appreciate the kind gesture by becoming productive.
