Ex-PDP chairman join Abia guber race, says he will do a new thing


    



A former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abia State Sen. Emma Nwaka, has made his intentions to contest the 2023 governorship election known to the party.

Nwaka, who was the PDP party chairman from (2011 to 2015) visited the party Secretariat on finsbars road Umuahia the state capital on Tuesday to inform the party leadership of his plans to run for the number one office in the state.

The legal practitioner, who hails from Oguduasa in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of the State said, his relsove to lead the state was inline with the with vision of the founding fathers of the state, who  envisioned "a well developed state with modern amenities". 

"In their wisdom, they saw it fit to make it clear in the Abia Charter of Equity that none of the four constituent districts of the State, Viz: Old Afikpo(part of Abia then), Old Bende , Isuikwuato District and the Old Aba District must not be left out particularly in the rotation of the topmost jobs in the state. This is the spirit of Onyeagjala Nwanneya”,he pointed out.

Nwaka had represented Abia North in the Senate during the third Republic, and has also served Abia state in various capacity including as a commissioner and special adviser. 

He was also a non-exclusive director of the defunct African Continental Bank and also a member of the governing council of Abia State University, Uturu.

Nwaka emphasized on the importance of recognizing of political offices within the party structure.

According to him, “I recognize that I am not all alone in the race for PDP gubernatorial ticket though I believe strongly that I am the best man to pick it if fidelity to the party in good and bad times; credibility and integrity are trait to be considered. And they should be.”

In a remark the state PDP chairman RT. Hon. Alwell Asiforo Okere, said senator Nwaka’s aspiration to run gives him hope as a party leader.”

“i'm bold and proud to say that we have a qualified aspirant. But if others will come, we will put all of them at the same level just as he has requested and that is my way of telling Abians about all the aspirants. We are going to give everyone equal opportunity and we will not faill to reward hard work.” Hon. Alwell said.

Party faithfuls crowded the party’s secretariat with various posters in support of their candidate.

Senator Nwaka is the first to visit the party Secretariat to declear interest to run for the governorship position in Abia State come 2023 under the peoples Democratic party(PDP).
