The Alex Otti Foundation has offered scholarship opportunities to students in public universities and polytechnics, to sponsor brilliant students unto global leaders.
The foundation made the disclosure on Saturday in Umuahia, Abia State capital during while briefing journalist on the scholarship project for the year 2022.
The executive Director of the foundation, Mr Chinedu Ekeke, said the scholarship project was not in any way, connected with Dr Alex Otti's political career, but was designed by Dr Otti to produce brilliant minds that would rule the future and to leave a lasting legacy in Abia State and the entire world.
He stated that world-class consultants from globally-acclaimed institutions were engaged by the foundation for the screening of all applicants to the scholarship, declaring that an interested applicant did not need to be connected to a high society personality before he or she could benefit from the scholarship.
Ekeke pointed out that students in second-year in the University who scored up to 3.5 CGPA and a scholar in the Polytechnic who scored up to 2.8 CGPA are qualified to apply for the scholarship, explaining further that proof of admission and generated of first-year academic results of such applicant would qualify him or her for interviews and screenings.
He explained that applications for the scholarship are done on online via the foundation's website.
He announced that about 50 students have so far been interviewed for the 2022 edition, noting that each successful applicant receives the sum of N150,000 per session till the students graduate, apart from the banquet organised for them on their year of selection.
He said any student of Abia State origin or students resident in Abia State are qualified and added that any student who has any ancestral trace to Abia State is also qualified to apply for scholarship.
"The Alex Otti foundation stated that 35 students were given scholarship in 2021, even as he traced the history of the educational project to 2017 which had given opportunities to hundreds of brilliant students, especially those from poor homes
" Dr Alex Otti is sponsoring it and he is doing everything possible to improve the standard of education in Nigeria. It is not a political scheme. It is hard organising something that is transparent. Nobody is allowed to influence or smuggle his or her children into the program because we choose the best", he said.
He advised interested students to always avail themselves the opportunity of being selected, whenever the scholarship award window is opened, and commended Dr Alex Otti for his giant strides in education.
