GUU Tasked scholars to focus on academic excellence, shun vicesOgbonnaya Ikokwu, Umuahia




The Vice Chancellor Gregory University, Uturu Abia State, Professor Augustine A. Uwakwe,
has charged freshmen in the University to focus on excellence in their academic pursuit in the University.

He urged the students otherwise addressed as scholars to understand that they have become a vital element in the scheme of things for the National.

The VC spoke on Saturday during the 10th matriculation ceremony of the University, which he revealed was also the tenth anniversary ceremony of the university.

Uwakwe, tasked the new students to remain focused and abide by the guiding principles on which the university was founded, including excellence in character and unrivalled learning.

The VC charged the fresh scholars to eschew all vices which includes cultism, gambling, drugs abuse and substance imbibition, depravity of any form among others.

"In any case, you will be readily and summarily expelled should you decide to test the resvole of the leadership of this university on any act of immorality as we uphold a zero-tolerance policy in that regard.

"Again as it is our passion to prepare you for the challenges of the future as our motto reads knowledge for tommorow. 

"You are enjoined to participate actively in your lecturers, other academic exercises and requisite extracurricular components as doing so would position you to actively realize your dreams of not only possessing a university degree but to also hone your skills for a more viable future for yourselves and loved ones". he said.

The Vice Chancellor pointed out that the University is poised to be one of the best in the world and as such all it's lecture halls, libraries and laboratories are equipped with modern facilities comparable with those in any standard Universities in the world.

"Our faculties are readily onhand to offer you current trend in the knowledge which you seek with value service delivery to boast of. You may also have observed that our university is in a serene location and this has been done to enable you focus on the primary business of top academic achievement for which you are now here". he stated.

The high point of ceremony was administering the matriculation oaths to 453 new students and 31 post graduate students by the Dens of their various faculties as well as the cutting of the University anniversary cake by the VC and the visitor to the University Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, who was represented by his Chief of staff, Prof. ACB Agbazuere.
