I'm in politics for the development of our constituency and people- OnuigboOgbonnaya Ikokwu, Umuahia




The Member Representing Ikwuano Umuahia Federal Constituency, Rep Sam Onuigbo, has said he joined partsan politics to attract infrastructural and human development to the people of his Constituency in a bigger capacity.

He revlead that he had as private individual championed many efforts to develop his Community which saw him working hard to attract a secondary school to the community in 2001. 

Onuigbo, spoke while monitoring the progress of the ongoing  reconstruction of Umuahia Ikot-Ekpene road now under the Nigeria National Petroleum Cooperation road tax credit Scheme.

He insisted that if adequate attention was not paid to the failed sessions of the road, to allow the easy passage of vehicles to and fro Akwa Ibom State, road users would face a huge challenge during the rainy season.

He said,"Those failed session needs to be taken care of to allow free passage of vehicles, before doing the final phase of the job.


"They must address the failed session around okwe axis before we get to the final phase of asphalting and I will still contact the higher management to address our request.

"If the job continues and vehicles going to Akwa Ibom can't have easy access, it's still a huge problem. I'm happy that work has started, as we have all seen it.

"I want them to sustain the pace at which they are currently working now, because we do not want the rains to meet them before they fix those failed session.

"I believe that since the Job is now under the NNPC road tax payment scheme.  l don't think there's any fear about payment. I think that with what is on ground and speed at which the construction company has come has returned with,I'm sure they will achieve a good result".

In a remark Mr. Ibrahim Najjar, a supervisor with Heartland construction firm, said the current phase of work covers about 10 kilometers, adding that he will also report other sessions that need urgent attention to the management.

Earlier the Reps member commissioned a newly built market  known as Ahia Ama together with a water borehole at Obuohia Obi-Ibere community in Ikwuano LGA of Abia State.

He said the market and the borehole were dear to him because they were direct request from the women of the community.

The President General of Obuohia Obi-Ibere women association, Pastor Chinyere Sam Onuigbo expressed happiness over the completion of the market.

She revealed that Rep. Onuigbo had been the beacon of hope and a light to the community even at it's darkest times.

She said,"Our market,Ahia Ama, became so dilapidated since the year 2007-2008. we began to make efforts to rebuild this market so that it can once again be the source of livelihood and engagement for our teaming women and their counterparts from all over the neighbouring villages, from Nkari, in Akwa-Ibom State to all Ikwuano and Umuahia".
 
"That was why we decided to tax ourselves to rebuild this market. Fortunately for us, our beloved son and husband,Rep. Sam Onuigbo promised that he would make efforts to ensure that he solves the problem for us.

"I must point out that since year 2000, Rep. Onuigbo has been constant in our annual August Meetings and he had contributed financially to all our projects".

The representative of Obuohia Ibere development union, Elder Godfrey Onyeike Ogbonna commended Onuigbo, for attracting the project and thanked the villagers for their cooperation, adding that the market will serve the purpose for which it was built.
