2023: APC Assembly aspirant Chinasa withdraws from the race

A House of Assembly aspirant for Umuahia Central State Constituency on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Barr. Anthony Chinasa Abiola,  has announced the withdrawal of his ambition from the race.

Speaking to Journalists in Umuahia the Abia state capital on Wednesday Chinasa, said the lack of internal democracy and imposition of candidates within the party were his reasons for leaving the contest.

The aspirant who expressed his love for the party, said he was not withdrawing out of anger, but because of the discomfort he had experienced in the past days.

He maintained that the APC is a wonderful party, but he was disappointed with the behaviour of some people within the party.

He said, "I have come to announce to my supporters, partymen and well wishers of my decision to drop my ambition to contest the House of Assembly primary election of our party tomorrow.

"It is my belief that the people should be in the position to elect their leaders out of their conviction and not by compulsion.

"I think all the people in our party should enjoy equal right in deciding who will lead us, but what is playing out in our party is at variance with believe as a democrat.

"I have people who will vote for me to secure the party ticket to run for the state Assembly election, but as at today I don't know who the delegates are and the mode of primary election our party have adopted and as such I can't take part in the progress.

He called on his supporters to remain calm, even as he will make time to consult with the people before making his next move public.
