Senator Mao Ohuabunwa who represented Abia North in the eight senate has been declared winner of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, primaries.
The former Leader, ECOWAS Parliament polled a total of 135 votes to defeat his closest rival and member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia federal consituency, Hon. Uko Nkole, who secured 29 votes.
Hon. Ernest Mba Ajah got 10 votes while Dr Igwe Orji had no vote.
The total number of accredited voters was 175 while one vote was voided.
The Chairman of the Electoral Committee for Abia North, Chief Silas Okafor, who disclosed this Wednesday, noted that the election was not without some hitches as one of the aspirants "who noticed that he was losing started molesting and harassing members of the committee".
" During the counting, he was losing and he and his supporters tried to stop the exercise, but my team resisted them and went ahead to successfully conclude the election.
" Senator Ohuabunwa who polled 135 votes was declared winner", Okafor said in a report obtained by Vanguard in Umuahia.
Meanwhile, Senator Ohuabunwa has dedicated his victory to God and his constituents, promising not to disappoint them.
He commended his fellow contestants and urged them to support him as members of one family, promising to carry everyone along.
