A former Local Government chairman Mazi Chibuike Jonas, has clinched the governorship ticket of African Democratic party in Abia State.
He was elected unopposed by 16 delegates selected across the 17 Local Government Areas in the state in a governorship primary election held in Umuahia, the state capital.
His election followed a motion moved by the deputy state chairman of the party Njoku Dickson and seconded by state auditor of the party Dr Jude Ohuche.
The returning officer for the election Mr Benjamin Arisa, declared him the winner of the election.
In his acceptance speech, Jonas said he joined the governorship race for the interest of all Abia residents.
He urged the party members to pray and work hard to convince greater number of the electorates in the state to vote the party into power.
He said, "I'm here to make a clear difference in governance of Abia State.
"Those who stay here know that our state has been badly managed, we are faced with the problems of bad roads, non payment of salaries and pensions.
But I'm here to bring forth sight development in the state, I did it as a Local Government chairman when I started and completed 52 projects within one year and eight months.
"All we require is prayers and hard work to win the election in order to take Abia to the future we deserve".
