2023; We must wrestle power from the PDP - Abia APC

Ogbonnaya Ikokwu, Umuahia

The Abia State chapter of the  All Progressive Congress has restated  her resolve to take over the reins of power from the Peoples Democratic party in the state.

A faction of the party led by Chief Goldie Nwagbara, stated on Saturday that the PDP had failed to deliver the dividends of democracy to Abia residents, adding that it was high time a party with the interest of Abians at heart took over the governance of the state.

The party in a communique read by its secretary Mr Perfect Okorie, after her State working committee meeting insisted that the immediate past minister of state for mines and steel development Chief Uche Ogah, remains her governorship candidate.

They maintained that the direct primary election that produced  Ogah, was inline with the directive of the National working committee of the party for a direct primary election to be conducted for the purposes of chosing the flag bearer of the party in the state.

The statement read in part "The Abia State APC is still standing on her resolve that nothing will deter the party from taking over power from the PDP government come 2023.

"We also stand by our candidate that emegered from the recently concluded May 26, 2022 governorship primary election that was conducted here in the state by direct primary as directed by the NWC of the party".

"The primary election was dully observed by the Independent National Electoral Commission and certified ture copies all made available by INEC and INEC have subsequently informed the NWC of the party of the candidate that emegered from the primary they monitored.

"The funding members of the party, stakeholders and all the party structure in the state stands by this and we are not shifting ground.

"We are not unware of the event that took a fortnight ago at Ntalagwu where it was rumoured that there was a harmonization that was purportedly carried out, the state APC, state categorically that what took place was a mere cham.

"We want to state that there was no presentation of Abia APC in that cham. No structure, recognized executive of the party from the Ward to the state level participated in that cham and non will participate in any subsequent assuming it will happen again.

"The either party dissociates herselves from that, it's a nullify and has no effect".
