Court Seals First Bank Offices In Umuahia

The premises of the First bank Nigeria PLC on Library Avenue Umuahia the Abia state capital was sealed off on Tuesday November 8, 2022.

Other branches of the Bank at Umuwaya and Uzuakoli roads within the capital city were equally sealed off.

The sealing of the banking premises was sequel to an order of the Magistrate Court of Abia state following a judgement obtained against the bank.

It was gathered that the enforcement team had stormed the bank, sealing the gate as at 7am in the morning.

The development hampered banking operations as customers who had come to perform banking transactions were seen stranded outside the gate in one of the branches visited by our correspondent.

The court order which was pasted on the wall of the bank premises was in connection of a Suite filed by a Private Company, Standard Polyplastic Industries Limited of 85/87 Aba Road, Umuahia over the Bank's indebtedness to the tune of Five million, Four hundred and Eight five thousand, seven hundred and fifty two and sixty two dollars. (548,752.62) US dollars.

The order read in part,"I apply for the issue of writh of the execution of the above name. There are more defendants than one and the plaintiff desires to prosecute some or one only in respect to a judgement or order of this court".
