Abia Police parades kidnap suspect, others

The Abia State Police command on Thursday paraded one Bright Chimaobi, for his alleged involvement in the kidnap of Mrs Nkiruka Victor on October 10, 2022.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Geoffrey Ogbonna, in a statement stated that the victim was kidnapped in Umuahia the state capital. 

Ogbonna, pointed out that the suspect was arrested following intelligence led investigation by the anti-kidnap unit attached to the state command in Umuahia.

He added that one Tecno phone, a tricycle and one eye glass was recovered from the suspect.

He said, "Chimaobi and his gang operates with tricycle which has been recovered from him. 

"During investigation, one Uche Adaku, who was kidnapped on November 2, 2022 and released on November 4, after the payment of N620,000 also identified the same Chimaobi as the one that drove his Lexus Jeep Rx330 away during his kidnap.

"Further investigation revealed that Chimaobi was among the gang that kidnapped one Mrs Shullamite Shericks sometime in August 2022 and was released after a ransom of three million naira was paid. Her eye glasses were also recovered from the suspect. Investigation is still on towards arresting the fleeing members of the gang".

The suspect however denied his involvement in the kidnap of the suspects. 

He claimed the eye glasses and phone belonging to one of the kidnapped victims were among items sold to him by some men he met in a hotel in Aba.

"I'm a tricycle operator, it is my village people that has been accusing me of kidnapping people because they are envious of my success", the suspect said.

Other suspects paraded by the command for illegal possession of firearms, Biafran currency and drugs were
Chijioke chukwu, 25, Azubuike Okechuchwu, 20, Chukwuemeka Okeosisi, 24, and Lucky Okoroafor 37.

One locally made pistol, wraps of illicit drugs and satchet of tramadol were recovered from the suspects.

The PPRO who assured Abia residents of the command's readiness to combat crime in the state, added that the suspects would be charged to Court after investigation by the police.
