The Nigerian Association of women Journalists(NAWOJ) Abia state chapter has called on Abia residents not to sell their PVCs or forment trouble during forthcoming general elections in 2023.
Comrade Josephine Ogwo the State Chairperson of NAWOJ who was speaking atNkporo in Ohafia LGA of Abia North senatorial zone, home town of the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Okochukwu, made it clear that the Association which is a non partisan group decided to partner INEC to educate and enlighten the populace especially those at the rural areas on the importance of participating during elections and as well as voting wisely.
The deputy Goveornor and INEC this week, embarked on voter education cum sensitization tour to the three senatorial zones in the state to educate and enlighten the populace especially those in the hinterland on the need to go and collect their PVCs so as to participate and vote candidates of thier choice in the forthcoming general elections.
Contributing, the secretary of Nawoj, zoneC , South East, comrade Tina Ikwuegbu, disclosed that the excersice will spread to every nook and crannies of the state to protect Abia people from being used by desperate politicians , she advised them to guard their PVCs jealousy as it is useful after the elections.
Educating the people on the new voting process, comrade Gloria Abiakam, comrade Blessingh Ralph Igbokwe, comrade Sally Anyaso as well as comrade Chibuzor maduka Iro who condemned voter apathy, thuggery, vote selling and buying among others and urged them especially the youths to jettison such attitude adding that it could ruine or mar their lives.
In his Reaction, the chairman Nkporo traditional rulers council, Eze, Uka Iro Eme who spoke through Eze Innocent Nba commended the women Journalists for embarking on such excersice which according to him has gone a long way to enlighten them on the new electral process urging them not to relent while calling on other groups to emulate them.
In their separate reactions, Ugoeze Orie Eme and Ugoeze Onukwube Obasi Uka described the move by ABIA NAWOJ as a right step in the right direction and promised to make good use of the knowledge they have acquired from the excersice as they prepare for the forthcoming general elections.
Also in their separate speeches, some youth leaders including, Uka Eme Nba as well as Mr Uka Marcus appreciated NAWOJ for the voter education describing it as apt while appealing to INEC to provide more PVC collection centers at the rural areas to ease the stress of traveling miles to collect PVCs.
Correspondent reports that the excersice will contunue next week in other senatorial zones in the state.
